STATEMENT
Her Scent Chats series is an investigation into flows of information with just the use of noses. Inspired when walking with Dog on the suburban streets, and the little tufts of bright green grass growing taller than the rest due to more dogs peeing on those same spots. Those places are spots of information exchange, small chats. When one dog leaves their mark, the next dog that smells that will know characteristics about the first dog like the time they visited, they’re height, what they ate, and emotional state. That spot becomes a place to get the daily read/news. Scent chats are what I call those tufts of tall green grass. Her black and white line drawings of these tufts of greens, smell exchanges, and paths of the suburban landscape are recordings invisible to the eye information. Scent Chat, a non-digital interactive installation, it's a bridge between worlds of the seeing and smelling. A banner of a scent chat drawing hangs in space, next to a bench, pencil, papers, and safety pens. The viewer sits and writes something about themself, maybe what they ate, have a cold, a fear, or have red hair. Then they pin it to the tree for others to pass by, sit, and read. A connection formed.
Her work chosen for juried shows at Pinnacle Gallery and Savannah Gallery in Savannah and exhibited in The Woodlands, Texas City, Houston, Texas, and awarded SCAD Historic Preservation Department Award. She achieved walking a Husky around the block without a lead. In 2019, Evans recently completed a self-imposed residency aka A Severency.
